Synthetic Moneylines
Another brief Friday night post to highlight a potential extra bit of edge you can juice out of any sport with ternary outcomes, such as association football. When you have the possibility of a match ending in a win, loss or draw (wherein none of these possibilities ends in a push), you can build a synthetic position on betting exchanges by buying no on the other two options. This is via the technique known as Dutching, where in order to ensure the same return over more than one outcome, you divide your stake between the different outcomes in an appropriate ratio. When the general momentum of the order book is right, you can use synthetic positions to get an even better entry than you could have even if you placed a limit entry on one of the yes options.
